My Skin Concerns – And How I Am Addressing Them

I have been wanting to share my skin concerns with you for awhile now. The drastic change in weather lately has brought my skin routine to the forefront and I have been paying extra attention to it. Firstly I will tell you a bit about my skin. I have mentioned in previous posts that I have fairly normal skin however I do have some dullness, dehydration, and my biggest concern which is pigmentation.

I have a pigmentation spot on my cheek that was caused by a laser treatment. I was getting laser for a pigmentation on my nose and somehow they managed to burn my cheek. I went for a few treatments to get rid of it but I wasn’t consistent in going back—oops. Skin pigmentation marks are a buildup of melanocytes (cells containing melanin) under the skin typically referred to as freckles and age spots on the hands, face and body areas. The laser treatments help to get below the skin surface to break up the pigmentation. Does anyone have any recommendations for products or treatments you use for pigmentation? I would love to try out some new places and products!

To address both the dullness and dehydration I have switched up my skin routine from the last time we chatted. I absolutely love my dewy skin makeup products to combat the dullness, but lately I have also been incorporating it into my skin care. One of my new favorite products in the Tatcha Violet-C Radiance Mask. After just one masking session my skin is glowing! I have added to my routine at least once a week.

Below are the other steps to my routine that I have switched up for not only this upcoming winter weather, but also because I want to tackle that dullness and dehydration head on!

Cleanse: Fresh Seaberry Cleansing Oil followed by Ren Cleansing Water (Always double cleanse!)

Tone: Darphin Intral Toner – Completes the cleansing process with a good dose of hydration.

Treat: Sunday Riley Good Genes – Ingredients like licorice, lemongrass and aloe help you achieve an even complexion. Perfect to help with my pigmentation and add radiance!

Moisturize: Drunk Elephant La La Retro Whipped Cream – The whipped texture absorbs quickly and contains six rare African oils to recover and lock in intense moisture for hours after application. Bye bye dehydration!

I also try to go at least once a month to get a professional grade facial. I have tried them all – exfoliating, hydrating, anti-aging. Do any of you have a facial or spa you absolutely cannot live without?

Leave me some comments below and tell me how you are tackling your own skin concerns. I hope my product recommendations are helpful to you and as the fall and winter seemingly drag on forever – happy hydrating! (But please bring back the sun okay?!)

Welcome to Miami

Miami has a population of approximately 5.5 million people and is visited by over 75 million tourists every year! I was one of these tourists just last week and I loved every minute of it. Not only is Miami the city that one of my favorite fashion designers Gianni Versace lived and died, it has the stunning summer weather I love all year around.

Miami International Airport is one of the busiest airports in North America. It’s no wonder with all those tourists every year! Upon arriving I was immediately greeted by Alpha Priority. Alpha Priority Services is a VIP Meet and Greet Airport Concierge Service, including Luxury Transportation. They discreetly expedited me through the airport  to my car.  The entire process was professional and speedy!  Their service was best in class and they made my travel experience luxurious and hassle free. I highly recommend them to any traveler as they are available worldwide. You’ll love your experience as much as I did!

My first stop was my hotel  Mondrian South Beach. It is right on the water of Biscayne Bay and has the type of interior I love. Lots of white and grand staircases with beautiful balconies that look directly out onto the bay. Waking up every morning with that view was a dream. There was an amazing pool with a spectacular view, a great gym, and great dining at Mondrian Caffe.

Mondrian South Beach
Isn’t this a dream?
Food with a view– what more could you ask for?

I visited The Sand Box  in 1 Hotel South beach for lunch and I was blown away. Not only by the food but by the amazing interior design of the hotel . 1 Hotel South Beach was voted one of the 10 best hotels in the US by Conde Naste traveler and it is easy to see why. It sits along 600 feet of Atlantic Ocean beach which leaves you feeling like you’re at a resort. This hotel has everything you could possibly need, including a Spartan gym and spa that make you feel like you never have to leave! I could seriously live in that hotel!!

These Falafels were everything!

I went to The Forge restaurant that night for dinner and it was absolutely worth leaving the atmosphere at 1 Hotel. The restaurant has been completely refurbished and has 6000 ft of open space in which to dine. The outside façade looks very art deco circa 1930 and really fits with the vibe of this neighborhood in Mid Beach. The menu was amazing and I loved all the local ingredients in the dishes. Highly suggest this place for a romantic dinner for two!

My final stop this day was Wall Lounge inside the W Hotel. Miami is definitely a city where the day doesn’t start until the night does. Normally I am not a night out kind of girl  but this place did not disappoint. The inside is smaller and more intimate than most clubs/lounges but the music and crowd made for a really fun night. It was definitely a memorable night filled with good vibes and laughter.

I also went to the Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics game while I was there and it was amazing! So many great places and memories were created during this trip. I hope you all got some inspiration for a vacation somewhere warm. Being back in this Vancouver rain is making me relive those Miami days over and over. Bring back the sun! What are some of your favorite destination places?

Don’t worry– I didn’t forget about your request for my makeup looks. Below is the only makeup look I had for the trip; a drop of foundation, liquid liner, touch of mascara, bronzer, and a lip liner/lipstick duo. My other go-to makeup for this trip was a bare-face with SPF and my Josie Oil!!!! Can’t live without it. XO

Dewy Skin – Even in the Winter

I absolutely love dewy skin. No matter what season it is I want that natural glow. I love my skin to be youthful and have a bounce that only comes with healthy skin. Below I am going to outline my favorite products that always give me a beautiful glow, even in the winter.

Before I get into the details I will tell you a bit about my skin. I would say that my skin is fairly normal, although I do experience dehydration all year around. When choosing masks I usually opt for the most hydrating or calming. In the winter I do experience more dryness than usual, which can sometimes make it more difficult to achieve the glow. Stay tuned for another post about some of my skin concerns that include irritation and break outs.

Let’s get glowing!

1. Prep – I always use my be all end all the Josie Maran Argan Oil (are you sick of hearing about this oil yet??) and I follow it up with Amore Pacific Future Response Age Defense Cream. It is very hydrating and smooths out my face making for a great canvas.

2. Foundation – I love Becca Aqua Luminous foundation mixed with Becca Opal Liquid Highlighter. By adding a drop or two of the liquid highlighter I can achieve an all over glow.

3. Set – I set only in the areas that are needed (mostly my under eye) with the Laura Mercier Universal Setting Powder. This goes on smooth and never leaves flash back in my photos.

4. Bronze & Highlight – I love, love, love the Profusion Bronzer from Makeup Forever. It is just the right color for all year-round bronze. It gives just the right amount of “sun kissed” to my skin. I am a huge fan of all things Anastasia Beverly Hills including her highlighter in So Hollywood. She has multiple highlighters, but this one gives me a Bronzy glow, so I tip off my bronzer with this.

This is really my everyday routine. To finish off my look, and take it up a notch, I use Sephora Collection Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, the Guerlain La Petite Noire mascara, and my current obsession from Buxom the Power Plump Lip Balm – The Big O. Last, but certainly not least, the Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist to finish the look.

These are just a few of my all time favorite products! What are some of your favorite dewy skin and glowing makeup products? Some of my favorite products have been from recommendations and I need to keep this glow glowing!

Fall & Winter Skincare – Updating Your Routine

I know this is coming a little late in the season, we may already be closer to winter than summer, but my denial that my favorite season is gone has been keeping me from finishing this post!

It’s no secret I am a summer girl. I love the long nights, cold white wines, and of course the hot weather. In the summer my go to skin care item is always SPF. Those hot, sunny days call for protection, protection, protection. But what happens when the days become shorter and the air becomes cooler? What do I always do to transition my skin care routine by season? Keep reading!

Below I am going outline my fall/winter routine step by step and give you some insights into my favorite skin care products and brands.

1. CLEANSE – No matter the season we always need to cleanse. I will always recommend a double cleanse – using one cleanser to clean away dirt and makeup and another to cleanse your skin below. My first step in double cleansing is always an oil cleanser. I have always been obsessed with Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil. This oil cleanses deeply without drying out the skin. I know a lot of you may be nervous about using an oil cleanser because it might leave your skin feeling oily, but the Shu Uemura does not leave any residue. Use my code MINAXSHU for a discount site wide and free shipping with a $50 purchase

2. CLEANSE PT.2 – I can’t forget the tool I cannot live without – my Clarisonic. Nothing gets my skin as deeply clean as this. Use code Mina15 for a discount site wide and free shipping over $50 as well!

3. EXFOLIATE – Honestly exfoliating is necessary in any season, but for the colder months when my skin may be drier than normal I love the Kate Somerville ExfoliKate. If you haven’t tried this yet you must! Most days I am exhausted at the end of the day and I don’t want to spend too much time on my skin so I love that Exfolikate is a 2 minute exfoliator. It is made with papya, pineapple, and pumpkin enzymes which leave the skin with a beautiful glow.

4. MASK– After being out all day in a colder temperature (and lots of rain in Vancouver!) I love giving my skin something to soothe and calm. Ren’s Evercalm Ultra Comforting Resue Mask is the perfect combination of Beta-Glucan and White Mushroom Extract which both calm redness and support the skin’s natural immune system to fight winter weather irritation.

TIP: I love this on a long flight too to prevent jet lag to my skin!

5. OIL – Last but certainly not least my holy grail skin product – Josie Maran Argan Oil. No matter the season or time of day I love, love, love this product. It leaves my skin refreshed, hydrated, and glowing. Use alone or under makeup.

That’s it guys! These are the few products I either love all seasons, or add in for these cooler months. If you need me I will be looking at photos of beaches, drinking a nice cold glass of wine, and impatiently waiting for summer to come back.
