Vancouver Fashion Week has been a staple in Vancouver since 2001. Ever evolving – just like fashion – this year’s opening gala (and also the full 7 day show) was held at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Chinatown on September 18th, 2017. This venue lent a hand to the gritty feel of the show – very much Sex in the City circa 1999.
The crowd was plentiful and varied, just the way a fashion show should be. Redken was on hand offering hair touch ups to show goers before they could head to Republic nightclub for the afterparty.
Three designers walked in opening night – Charly Thorn, Aiki District, and Nozomi Kuwahara.
My personal favorite was Charly Thorn. She is an 18 year old Australian designer who made me crave Spring ’18 already! At such a young age she is sure to continue to grow and produce amazing fashion in the years to come. One piece in particular stood out to me. This structured beach suit. Not only the shape but the pattern had me begging to see more. The entire aesthetic of her show had me feeling I could move to an island and live there forever.
Aiki District had a much more laid back and simplistic feel. The neutral colors and unstructured cuts worked so well with the fabrics chosen. Any piece could work alone but also be given your own spin with the right accessories and styling.
See below for my own outfit and makeup details. Also visit http://www.vanfashionweek.com for tickets. Shows run until Sunday September 24th!
Until March 2018 VFW! I will be back to view all that Fall has to offer.
